Welcome to Brookmeadow at Blue Hills, located in Stoughton, Massachusetts
Stoughton is a charming and unpretentious town nestled just south of the Blue Hills Reservation area in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. With a unique combination of history and modern amenities, Stoughton is a lovely town to call home. It’s the kind of town you can easily walk or bike around. Residents enjoy the flavors of local dining, charming shops, entertainment and recreational services for all ages.
A Historic Town for Modern Times
Throughout the year, musical events are hosted by the Old Stoughton Musical Society. Founded in 1786, the Society is the oldest continuously operating choral society in America. Other historical points of interest include the Stoughton Historical Society, Immaculate Conception Church, and the grand Lucius Clapp Memorial building.
Another landmark of interest is “Stoughton Station.” Built in 1888, Stoughton Station is the only rail station in Massachusetts to house a clock tower. In 1974, Stoughton Station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Over one million dollars was raised to restore the station to its original luster in time for the 100th anniversary. However, in 2009, the MBTA permanently closed the station. In 2015, the town purchased Stoughton Station from the state for renovation and multi-purpose use.
The stone used to build Stoughton Station was extracted from the old Gilbert Quarry that is now part of Stoughton’s extensive conservation area and public open spaces: Bird Street Conservation Area boasts 600 acres of land that is brimming with wildlife, lovely ponds, and re-purposed farmland. These protected lands are ideal for birdwatching, mountain biking, walking, and hiking.
Recreation for All, All Year Long
The Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center offers educational programming for the general public as well as for the excellent schools in the area. The Observatory maintains a climate record that dates back to 1885. Situated among the 7,000 acre rolling greenways and vistas of the Blue Hills Reservation area one can enjoy a variety of outdoor recreation activities around the observatory.
Stoughton’s Recreation Department offers a variety of activities for adults and children. From the annual holiday festivities (Independence Day, Memorial Day, and winter parade) to ongoing sport and recreational offerings, community picnics, library programs, and the like, there’s always something to do, close to home, in Stoughton.
